Overview

My artistic practice serves as a bridge between complex global systems and public understanding, translating intricate environmental, technological, and economic realities into experiences that resonate with diverse audiences. I work at the intersection of art and science, revealing the hidden connections between genomics, environmental policy, climate science, and global economies. In this role, I embrace Andrea Fraser's vision of the artist as a 'service provider,' offering my perception and interpretation as a public resource that helps others navigate our rapidly changing world.

My work extends beyond traditional ecological art into what I term 'Alter EcoArt,' engaging directly with emerging climate technologies like green chemistry and life-cycle engineering. This approach stems from observing a critical gap in the climate tech sector, where despite significant private-public investment in renewable energy and carbon credits, the cultural dimension of climate adaptation remains largely unexplored. Art and culture are the catalysts for societal transformation, yet they're often missing from climate innovation conversations.

Rather than limiting myself to a single medium, I employ a fluid methodology that encompasses fabrication technologies, social practice, bio-art, and interventionist strategies. This adaptability allows me to choose the most effective platforms for each project, whether that means creating immersive installations, facilitating community dialogues, or developing interactive technologies.

My practice unfolds through sustained, multi-year investigations examining crucial societal questions: How can citizens actively shape environmental policy? What are the implications of CRISPR technology for our future? How might we envision a world that transcends human-centric thinking? These investigations create natural partnerships with scientists, engineers, and sociologists, leading to collaborations that transform both their research methodologies and my artistic approach.

I structure my practice like a scientific inquiry, where each artwork functions as a living hypothesis responding to technological advancement and emerging knowledge. This framework supports an iterative process where artistic interventions generate new questions, creating a continuous cycle of investigation and innovation. The resulting body of work does more than document our changing world—it actively participates in shaping our understanding of it and imagining possible futures.
